In 2018, The Government of Indonesia hosted the water event theme Our Ocean Conference in Bali from the 29th to the 30th of October. The theme of the event was “Our Ocean, Our Legacy”, meaning that the theme is about the awareness of how important the ocean to mankind. It is important for a water event like Our Ocean Conference to focus on marine protected areas, sustainable fisheries, marine pollution, and climate change-related impacts to the ocean.
As the host of Our Ocean Conference 2018, the event was officially opened by Indonesian President Jokowi on the first day and went on with various agendas of conference by invited speakers to enhance the collaboration and partnership between various ocean stakeholders, in which translated into concrete and actionable commitments.
As a result, the event was a success and was visited by OOC participants, Indonesia’s Ministers, ASEAN members, Overseas Ambassadors, a few Maritime members, and many more who are committed to contribute towards global efforts to preserve the oceans’ health. At the final day, the event ended with a handover ceremony that will take the next event to Norway in 2019.
